Obverse description Central field bearing the abbreviated Latin legend CVN within a decorative wreath border composed of pellets and oval bosses arranged in a continuous ring around the periphery. The lettering, abbreviating the name of the issuing ruler Cunobelin, is rendered in bold, primitively incised characters occupying the centre of the flan. The overall design is characteristic of late British Iron Age coinage, combining Celtic decorative sensibility with nascent use of Latin script.
