The Cantii occupied the territory now roughly corresponding to Kent, and their coinage in the final decades before Roman conquest reflects a tribe already deeply embedded in cross-Channel trade networks with Belgic Gaul. Minims — the smallest denomination in the late Iron Age British series — were almost certainly used for small transactions in high-frequency markets rather than tribute or gift exchange, which favored larger units.
ABC 450 is attributed to the period immediately preceding or overlapping Claudius's invasion of 43 AD, meaning surviving examples passed through hands that would shortly see Roman currency displace them entirely.
