Eppillus is one of the few pre-Roman British rulers to use the Latin title REX on his coinage, suggesting direct diplomatic engagement with Rome — possibly connected to Augustus's renewed interest in Britain following Cunobelinus's rise to power among the Catuvellauni. He appears to have ruled parts of both Cantii and Atrebates territory, and the coin record is the primary evidence for his reign's geography and chronology.
Minims of this type are among the smallest Celtic silver issues struck in Britain. The weight tolerance across surviving specimens varies enough to suggest production without rigid weight standards.
