Obverse description Draped bust of Gaston d'Orléans facing right, depicted with laurel-wreathed long hair and a short beard, wearing a cloak fastened at the shoulder. The portrait is rendered in a bold, high-relief baroque style typical of French feudal coinage of the mid-17th century. The circular Latin legend reads GASTON.VS.P DOMBARVM, interrupted by the bust, and is set within a toothed inner border running along the coin's rim.
