Obverse description Armored knight standing in full figure to right, wearing a plumed helmet, raising a drawn sword in his right hand against his shoulder while grasping a ribbon or laurel branch in his lowered left hand. At the knight's feet rests a crowned shield bearing the arms of the Duchy of Gelderland. The figure is rendered in the vigorous baroque style typical of Dutch provincial coinage of the late seventeenth century. A continuous Latin legend runs along the circumference of the coin, with ornamental stops separating the abbreviated words.
