Obverse description A standing armored knight in three-quarter view occupies the central field, rendered in high relief and facing to the right. The figure wears full plate armor with a plumed helmet and holds an upraised sword in the right hand while the left hand grasps a bundle of arrows, emblematic of the Union of Utrecht. At the knight's feet rests the crowned shield of West Friesland, bearing a lion rampant. The circular Latin legend reads MO: NO: ARG: PRO: CONFŒ: BELG: WESTFRI:, distributed around the periphery within a beaded border.
