The Treveri occupied the Moselle valley in what is now Luxembourg and western Germany, and were among the more militarily assertive of the Belgic tribes — Caesar devoted considerable attention to their repeated attempts to ally with Germanic groups across the Rhine during the Gallic Wars of the 50s BC. This coin falls squarely within that turbulent window, likely struck during or just after Roman pacification of the region.

The DT#199 classification places it within Delestrée and Tache's tightly argued typology for Belgic silver, which distinguished Treverian issues partly on metal fineness — notably higher than many contemporaneous Gaulish deniers.
