| Obverse description | Facing gorgoneion (Metus) rendered in high relief, depicting the apotropaic mask with wide-open eyes, a broad flat nose, and protruding tongue issuing from a gaping mouth. The face is framed by a mass of writhing serpentine hair radiating outward, enclosed within a beaded border. Immediately below the chin, the denomination mark XX is incused, denoting the value of 20 Asses. The style is characteristic of the bold, expressive die-cutting associated with the Etruscan mint of Populonia. |
