| Obverse description | A hippocamp depicted in right profile occupies the central field, its equine foreparts rendered with naturalistic detail while the serpentine fish-tail curves beneath. Two dolphins are shown flanking or accompanying the hippocamp, one above and one below. The numeral value mark appears in the upper field above the principal device. The design is executed in the archaic Italic style characteristic of early South Italian coinage, with bold, deeply incuse relief typical of hammered silver issues of this period. |
