Luca was a Latin colony in northern Etruria, and its autonomous coinage is brief and poorly documented — the city was absorbed into Roman political structures early enough that its independent issues span only a few decades at most. The "Goose" series sits among the lightest fractional silver struck anywhere in pre-Roman Italy, suggesting use in small-scale local transactions rather than interregional trade.
