| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Julian II facing right, wearing a distinctive pearl diadem with pendilia visible behind the ear. The emperor's features are rendered in the late Roman portrait tradition, with fine hair detail and a clean-shaven face characteristic of Julian's coinage. The legend FL CL IVLIA-NVS P P AVG runs clockwise around the periphery, separated by the bust, within a beaded border. The workmanship reflects the accomplished engravers of the Lugdunum mint active during Julian's brief sole reign. |
