| 表面の説明 | Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of the usurper Jovinus facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style. The diadem is adorned with rosettes and a prominent central jewel, with ribbons trailing behind the head. The paludamentum is fastened at the shoulder and visible beneath the cuirass. The surrounding Latin legend reads DN IOVINVS PF AVG, identifying the emperor with his full titulature. The flan is irregular and slightly undersized, characteristic of silver siliquae struck at the Lugdunum mint during this brief usurpation. |

The figure is rendered in the standard late Roman Victory-Roma type common to siliquae of this period. The surrounding legend VICTORIA AVGG references the victory of the Augusti. The mint mark SMLDV appears in the exergue, denoting the Lugdunum mint officina V. |

Jovinus was proclaimed emperor at Moguntiacum (modern Mainz) in 411 by a coalition of Burgundian and Alanic chieftains — essentially a barbarian-backed coup dressed in Roman administrative clothing. His brother Sebastianus was elevated to co-emperor shortly after, an unusual dynastic move that likely reflected pressure from his federate backers rather than any conventional Roman succession logic. Both were captured and executed by Ataulf's Visigoths in 413, on behalf of Honorius.
The extreme lightness of this piece relative to earlier siliqua standards reflects the degraded silver supply available to a usurper controlling a fragmenting Gallic mint network.
