The VOTIS XXX MVLTIS XXXX vow legend commemorates Constantius II's thirtieth regnal anniversary — his tricennalia of 353 AD — though the type continued striking well past that occasion, making the vow inscription more formulaic than celebratory by its later issues. Arelatum was one of the western mints Constantius consolidated his control over after defeating the usurper Magnentius at the Battle of Mons Seleucus in 353, and the resumption of silver coinage there reflects the administrative reorganization that followed.
RIC VIII 207 is attested in multiple officina variants from this mint.
