正面描述 Bare-headed and diademed bust of Constantius II facing right, the gaze directed slightly upward in the heroic imperial tradition. The portrait is rendered in the late Constantinian style, with finely striated hair beneath a plain diadem, and a draped and cuirassed shoulder visible at the truncation. No legend appears on the obverse of this issue, the field being plain around the imperial effigy.

附加信息

Constantius II held the title Caesar — not Augustus — when this coin was struck, subordinate to his father Constantine I. The NOB CAES legend places it firmly before Constantine's death in May 337, after which Constantius and his brothers elevated themselves to full Augustus rank and promptly had most of their male relatives massacred to eliminate rival claims. The Nicomedia mint was one of Constantine's preferred eastern facilities, heavily active during the 330s as the imperial center of gravity shifted toward Constantinople.
