Beschrijving voorzijde Bare-headed, pearl-diademed bust of Emperor Constans facing right, rendered in the Late Roman imperial style with finely detailed wavy hair adorned by a double row of pearls forming the diadem. The effigy displays a clean-shaven, youthful profile with classicizing features. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery of the flan, interrupted by the portrait. No drapery is visible on the truncation in this bust type.

Aanvullende informatie

The VOTIS/MULTIS vow inscriptions on these siliquae record the decennial celebrations — in this case the completion of twenty-five years of rule and prayers for thirty. Constans never reached that threshold. He was overthrown and killed in January 350 by the usurper Magnentius, making the XXX vow an aspiration that died with him. The Nicomedia mint struck this type across a window that closed abruptly with the coup, and surviving pieces from the later end of the production run are correspondingly scarcer than those from the opening years of the emission.
