Siglos - Sidqmelek

Lapethos, on the northern coast of Cyprus, was one of the island's Phoenician-dominated city-kingdoms, and its coinage from this period reflects the uneasy dual allegiance many Cypriot rulers maintained — nominally under Persian suzerainty while retaining local dynastic identity. The name Sidqmelek is Phoenician, meaning roughly "Melqart is righteous," and its appearance on the coinage situates this issue firmly within the Phoenician cultural sphere that controlled the mint during the late fifth century.

The "var." notation against Tziambazis #48 is worth attention — Cypriot siglos coinage from this mint shows considerable die variation, and unattributed varieties surface infrequently enough that precise classification remains unsettled in the literature.
