Siglos

Amisos, the Greek colony on the southern Black Sea coast, occupied an awkward political position during this century — absorbed into the Pontic sphere yet retaining enough civic autonomy to strike its own silver. The city had been refounded or renamed under Athenian influence in the fifth century, which complicates attribution of its earliest issues and has generated persistent debate in the literature over which civic authority authorized specific emissions.

The siglos denomination itself is a Persian weight standard adopted widely across Asia Minor, a practical concession to regional trade networks rather than any political allegiance.
