Paphos was one of the principal Cypriot kingdoms during the Persian period, and its kings struck silver in the sigloi weight standard as a direct consequence of Achaemenid administrative pressure following Cyrus's consolidation of the eastern Mediterranean. The city-kingdom's loyalty during the Ionian Revolt and its aftermath shaped which mints were permitted to continue striking — Paphos among them.
The Weber and Jameson references place this piece within a tightly documented sequence, though die linkage studies on Paphian silver from this decade remain incomplete relative to Salaminian issues.
