Obverse description Central field occupied by the Shia kalima rendered in bold nastaliq script, arranged across two registers separated by a horizontal line. The upper register bears the shahada declaration and the lower register continues with the affirmation of Ali's wilayat. The calligraphic strokes are vigorous and interlocking, characteristic of Safavid hammered coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. The irregular flan edge shows characteristic clipping and flan preparation typical of provincial Safavid mint production.
