Obverse description The field is occupied by the Shi'ah Kalimah (profession of faith) inscribed in three horizontal lines in bold naskh script, separated by ruled lines. The upper line reads 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but God), the middle line reads 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the Messenger of God), and the lower line reads 'Ali wali Allah' (Ali is the Friend of God), affirming Twelver Shi'ah doctrine. The legend fills the entire flan and is bordered by a beaded or rope inner circle. The irregular flan and somewhat off-center strike are characteristic of hammered Afsharid coinage of this period.
