| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Victoria is depicted striding left, winged and semi-draped, holding a large round shield in her left hand which she inscribes or sets upon a low palm trunk, while her right arm is extended. The figure is rendered in the classical Roman style with flowing drapery at the lower body and fully spread wings behind. The legend VICTORIA AVGVSTI arcs around the upper field, with the senatorial authorization mark S C prominently placed in the lower exergual area, flanking the base of the palm trunk. The bold, high-relief representation of Victory is characteristic of the brief but stylistically accomplished coinage struck at Rome during Vitellius's reign in AD 69. |
