Vitellius held power for only eight months in 69 AD — the Year of the Four Emperors — before being dragged through Rome's streets and executed by Vespasian's forces. His entire bronze coinage was produced in that window, making any surviving sestertius from his reign genuinely scarce by structural necessity rather than collecting fashion. RIC I#136 is among the more frequently encountered of his types, but that designation is relative: surviving Vitellian bronzes in any grade are uncommon enough that auction appearances remain notable events.
