Issued in 71 AD, this sestertius belongs to a brief and deliberate propaganda campaign in which Vespasian publicly elevated both sons as his designated successors — an arrangement with no real republican precedent. Titus had just returned from the siege of Jerusalem, and the dynasty's legitimacy rested heavily on that military success. Naming Domitian cos. des. II alongside Titus signaled dynastic continuity to a Roman public that had endured four emperors in a single year.
