Reverse description Mars, god of war, depicted nude save for a crested helmet and military cloak (paludamentum) billowing behind him, strides vigorously to the right in a dynamic advancing pose. In his right hand he carries a transverse spear pointing forward, while his left hand bears a trophy — a representation of captured enemy arms — over his shoulder. The authorizing legend S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the field to either side of the figure, confirming senatorial sanction for this bronze issue. The design is set within a beaded border with a flat exergue.
