(Translation: Imperator Caesar Vespasianus Augustus, Pontifex Maximum, Tribunicia Potestate, Pater Patriae, Consul Tertium. Supreme commander (Imperator) Caesar Vespasian, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, father of the nation, consul for the third time.)
Reverse description A tetrastyle temple with a domed or arched central bay depicted in three-quarter perspective, raised upon a stepped podium and flanked by columns; the structure is identified as the Temple of Isis, a significant religious monument that Vespasian associated with his rise to power. Curtains or drapery are visible between the inner columns, evoking the sacred interior. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently displayed in the open field, S to the left and C to the right of the temple, as was standard on Flavian aes coinage. The composition fills the flan with architectural detail rendered with crisp, measured engraving consistent with Rome mint production of AD 71.
