Reverse description The personification of Pax stands facing left in long flowing robes, holding an olive branch extended forward in her right hand and a caduceus or scepter in her left hand. The large senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanks the figure on left and right in the mid-field, a standard feature of Roman imperial aes coinage denoting senatorial sanction. The partial legend PAX P ROMANI appears in the upper field around the periphery. The reverse field exhibits a dark green patina with areas of earthen encrustation characteristic of excavated Roman bronzes.
