| Beschrijving keerzijde | A tall date palm tree occupies the central axis of the field, its fronds spreading into the upper register — the canonical symbol of Judaea on Flavian coinage. To the left of the palm stands a Roman soldier or captive male figure, and to the right sits a female personification of Judaea, rendered in a mournful attitude with bowed head, seated on a low platform or pile of arms at the base of the tree. The legend IVDAEA CAPTA is divided on either side of the design, with the senatorial authority mark S C flanking the central group. The composition powerfully commemorates the Roman suppression of the Jewish revolt of AD 66–70. |
