| Obverse description | Consecratio type depicting the deified Vespasian enthroned and holding a sceptre, seated right upon a ornate triumphal car (tensae) drawn by four elephants with riders (mahouts). The reverse side of the coin is shown in the image; the obverse would carry the legend DIVO AVG VESP S P Q R encircling the processional scene. The composition reflects the Roman tradition of posthumous consecratio coinage honouring an emperor granted divine status by the Senate. |
