At her feet, a ship's prow or modius may be discerned, referencing the maritime grain trade vital to Rome's sustenance. The legend ANNONA AVGVST is distributed across the upper field, with the senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the central figure in the lower field. A dotted border frames the reverse design. The composition is characteristic of Flavian sestertii celebrating imperial beneficence and the administration of the grain supply. |
