| Obverse description | Draped bust of Diva Marciana facing right, her hair elaborately dressed and crowned with a stephane adorned with star-like points, consistent with her posthumous deification iconography. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the Trajanic style, with fine detailing to the facial features and drapery over the shoulder. The encircling legend reads DIVA AVGVSTA MARCIANA, distributed around the bust field. This consecration issue commemorates Ulpia Marciana, elder sister of Trajan, who was deified following her death circa AD 112. |
