Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, depicted with characteristic strong facial features and short hair beneath a finely rendered laurel wreath. The bust is draped and cuirassed, rendered in high relief in the naturalistic Roman imperial portrait tradition of the Trajanic period. The encircling legend is positioned along the rim and separated by a beaded border, reading continuously around the portrait effigy. The overall die engraving reflects the refined craftsmanship associated with the Rome mint during the early years of Trajan's reign.
