Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, with drapery on the left shoulder, rendered in high relief with strong, characterful portraiture typical of Trajanic imperial coinage. The emperor's face is shown with a slightly furrowed brow, short cropped hair beneath the laurel wreath, and a bare neck. The encircling legend runs from lower left around the full periphery of the flan. The bold, confident style of the portrait reflects the zenith of Roman imperial artistic achievement under Trajan.
