| Reverse description | Jupiter, nude and standing to the left, dominates the reverse field; he holds a thunderbolt in his raised right hand and with his extended left arm shelters the smaller standing figure of Emperor Trajan, who holds a branch in his right hand. The composition powerfully conveys divine protection of the emperor and the legitimacy of his rule under Jupiter's aegis. The legend CONSERVATORI PATRIS PATRIAE arcs across the upper field, while the senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the lower field on either side of the figures. The design reflects the Trajanic ideological programme linking imperial authority with divine sanction. |
