To the left of the palm tree, a female figure personifying Judaea sits in mourning upon a pile of arms and military spoils, her head bowed in a posture of defeat. The reverse commemorates the Roman conquest of Judaea following the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. The abbreviated legend IVD CAP appears in the field, with the authorizing mark S C (Senatus Consultum) prominently placed, attesting to senatorial sanction of the issue. The composition closely follows the celebrated Judaea Capta iconographic tradition established under Vespasian. |
