| Reverse description | The deified Augustus, styled as Divus Augustus, is depicted seated left on a curule chair (sella curulis), holding a long sceptre in his left hand and a thunderbolt in his outstretched right hand, attributes reinforcing his divine status. The figure is rendered in the provincial Roman sculptural tradition, with drapery indicated in summary fashion. The surrounding legend MVN TVR DIVVS AVGVSTVS, distributed in the field and periphery, identifies both the issuing municipality of Turiaso and the honorific divine title of Augustus. This type was struck to honour the memory and cult of Augustus under the reign of his successor Tiberius. |
