Obverse description A carpentum (ornate two-wheeled ceremonial carriage) drawn to the right by two mules, its body richly decorated with figures of Victories and other mythological or allegorical personages in relief. The carriage, presented in profile, reflects the high artistic standards of Julio-Claudian coin engraving. The legend encircling the design honours Livia (Julia Augusta), mother of Tiberius, the dedication issued by the Senate and Roman people. A beaded border frames the entire composition.
