| 表面の銘文 | ΒΑϹΙΛΕωϹ ΡΟΙΜΗΤΑΛΚΟΥ (Translation: [coin] of King Rhoemetalces) |
| 裏面の説明 | Standing figure of Nike (Victory) advancing left, wearing a flowing chiton, with wings spread behind her; she holds a wreath in her raised right hand and a palm branch in her left. The figure is rendered in the Hellenistic manner, with drapery animated by movement. The denomination mark MH (numerical value 48) is divided on either side of the figure, M to the left and H to the right, within a dotted border that encircles the entire design. The reverse type of Nike is consistent with other Bosporan royal bronze issues of the mid-second century AD. |

Rhoemetalces ruled the Bosporan Kingdom as a client king under Roman suzerainty, his authority ultimately dependent on imperial goodwill from Rome. The Bosporan coinage of this period occupies an awkward monetary position — nominally independent issues from a kingdom that was, in practice, an extension of Roman frontier policy along the northern Black Sea coast. The regnal copper issues of this reign are catalogued across multiple reference systems precisely because no single authority has resolved the series convincingly, with Anokhin, MacDonald, and the Bosporos corpus each offering slightly divergent attributions for overlapping types.
