| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing draped figure of Libertas facing left, holding a pileus (freedom cap) in her extended right hand and a long vertical sceptre or vindicta staff in her left hand. The monogram S C (Senatus Consulto — by decree of the Senate) is prominently displayed in the field to either side of the central figure, a standard authorisation mark on Roman bronze coinage. The surrounding circumferential legend in Latin capitals denotes Nerva's imperial acclamation and consular titles. The reverse type celebrates Libertas as a programmatic theme of Nerva's reign, consciously distinguishing his rule from the perceived tyranny of Domitian. |
