| Obverse lettering | IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P II COS III P P (Translation: Imperator Nerva Caesar Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate Secunda, Consul Tertium, Pater Patriae. Supreme commander (Imperator) Nerva, Caesar, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power for the second time, consul for the third time, father of the nation.) |
| Reverse description | Central type depicting two clasped right hands (dextrarum iunctio) firmly grasping a legionary aquila (eagle standard) mounted on a naval prow (rostrum), oriented to the left, symbolising the concordance between the emperor and his armed forces. The aquila is shown with spread wings atop its staff, while the prow beneath is rendered with typical Roman decorative detail including acanthus scroll ornamentation. The senatorial authority marks S and C (Senatus Consultum) are placed symmetrically in the lower field to either side of the central device. The reverse legend CONCORDIA EXERCITVVM encircles the type, referencing the political reconciliation with the legions that was critical to Nerva's reign. |
