| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Nero facing right, rendered with the characteristic full, fleshy features and elaborate coiffure of the emperor's later portraiture, with layered curls swept back from the forehead and falling in a long queue at the nape. The effigy is set boldly in high relief against a flat field. A circular Latin legend runs around the periphery, broken at the base of the portrait. The overall style reflects the accomplished die-cutting of the Neronian imperial workshops, conveying both authority and idealized youth. |
