| 裏面の説明 | The reverse depicts the Janus Geminus, the twin-gated temple of Janus in the Roman Forum, shown in a three-quarter perspective as a rectangular structure with massive paneled double doors set within an arched central opening, flanked by heavily rusticated stone walls with visible ashlar coursing. The temple doors are represented as closed, symbolizing the rare condition of universal peace throughout the Roman world. The senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed prominently in the left and right fields flanking the temple. The surrounding legend, reading retrograde on this example, records the historic closing of the Temple of Janus — an act performed only a handful of times in Roman history. The composition reflects the propagandistic intent of Nero's coinage to proclaim peace across land and sea. |
