Flanking the emperor are two mounted soldiers riding in the opposite direction, each bearing a vexillum (military standard) over the shoulder, evoking the ceremonial military exercise known as the decursio. The reverse legend DECVRSIO appears in the field with the senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) prominently displayed, affirming the coin's official bronze issue. |
