| 裏面の説明 | The reverse depicts a decursio scene: Nero, bare-headed and cuirassed with his military cloak billowing behind him, rides at a vigorous prance to the left while brandishing a spear. Flanking the emperor, both in front and behind, are mounted soldiers also riding left, each bearing a vexillum (military standard) over the shoulder. The composition captures the ceremonial military exercise known as the decursio, a parade maneuver performed in honor of deceased emperors or as a demonstration of imperial military prowess. The legend DECVRSIO appears in the field, with the senatorial authority mark S C prominently placed in the exergue or field. The bold, dynamic rendering of horse and rider reflects the ambitious artistic programme of Neronian large bronze coinage. |
