Reverse description The reverse depicts the emperor on horseback galloping to the right, in military attire, holding a spear leveled forward; a military officer or eques rides alongside him to the right, also on horseback. The scene commemorates the decursio, a ceremonial cavalry parade or military exercise performed in honor of a deceased or celebrated member of the imperial family. The legend DECVRSIO is inscribed in the exergue in large, clear capital letters. The composition is bold and dynamic, reflecting the propagandistic military imagery favored by Nero's mint during the middle years of his reign.
