| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a congiarium distribution scene in multiple registers. At right, Nero is shown seated on a raised platform (tribunal) facing left, presiding over the distribution. A standing figure of Minerva, helmeted and in military attire, stands at the centre of the composition above a table or platform, extending her arm. At lower left, a citizen approaches the tribunal to receive his distribution, attended by an official. The legend CONG II DAT POP is distributed around the upper and lateral fields, with the large senatorial authority mark S C prominently placed in the lower exergual area. The entire design is framed by a beaded border and executed in the robust, narrative relief characteristic of Neronian sestertii. |
