| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Nero facing right, depicted with youthful features and a strong jawline consistent with his later portraiture. The emperor is shown bare-necked with finely rendered hair in tight curls across the forehead. The bold raised legend encircles the bust close to the rim, reading NERO CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P. Below the bust, the mint mark NERO appears in the lower field. The portrait is executed in the broad, confident style characteristic of the Rome Mint sestertii of Nero's middle reign. |
