Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of King Kotys II facing right, the hair rendered in wavy locks falling to the neck, with a ribbon or diadem visible above the brow. A sceptre or staff appears to be held before the bust. The circumferential Greek legend ΒΑϹΙΛΕΩϹ ΚΟΤΥΟϹ runs around the periphery within a beaded border, identifying the issuer as King Cotys. The portraiture reflects the Hellenistic royal tradition prevalent in the Bosporan Kingdom during the second century CE.
