The god is depicted in the classical Roman manner, with drapery falling over his lower body and legs, and the throne rendered with simple but authoritative lines. The reverse legend is distributed around the field, with SC (Senatus Consultum) prominently placed in the lower portion of the field, authorising the bronze coinage issue. The overall composition conveys the divine sanction of Hadrian's rule through the association with the supreme deity of the Roman pantheon. |
