Reverse description The personification of Spes (Hope) depicted advancing to the left in flowing robes, rendered as a draped female figure in the classical tradition. She extends her right hand upward holding a flower, while her left hand gathers and lifts the hem of her garment at the side, a pose conventional to this deity in Roman imperial coinage. The legend P M TR P COS III is distributed around the upper field periphery, while the senatorial authorisation mark S C appears prominently in the lower field on either side of the figure. The reverse field shows the characteristic broad, flat treatment of the Hadrianic sestertius format.
