Obverse description Laureate, cuirassed bust of Hadrian facing right, with pteryges visible at the shoulder, rendered in high relief in the characteristically Hadrianic classicizing style. The emperor's features are idealized yet individualized, with the distinctive short beard that became a hallmark of Hadrianic portraiture. The peripheral legend encircles the bust, reading from lower left to upper right. The overall composition displays the confident, naturalistic die-cutting typical of the Roman Imperial mint during the early second century AD.

Obverse lettering IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG
(Translation: Imperator Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus. Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Trajan Hadrian, emperor (Augustus).)
Reverse description The emperor Hadrian on horseback, moving at a vigorous gallop to the left, his right arm extended and raised in the imperial adlocutio gesture of address or salute, with his military cloak (paludamentum) billowing dramatically behind him in the wind. The horse is depicted with energy and naturalism, legs extended in full stride. The legend P M TR P COS III is distributed around the field, with S C flanking the horse at mid-field, and EXPED AVG inscribed in the exergue, commemorating an imperial military expedition. The reverse type alludes to Hadrian's well-documented personal military campaigns and tours of the provinces.
